Let The Campaign Begin!
Friday, July 15, 2005
Family Matters has officially launched to the UTMB campus. Events included two receptions for night-shift employees on July 14 and 15. A red-white-and-blue kickoff in William C. Levin Hall on July 15 brought together employees from all areas of campus—through the rain, no less—for a rousing, convention-style celebration. The show featured Uncle Sam modeling appropriate casual-Friday dress, as well as inspiring talks from Family Campaign Committee Chairman Dr. Al LeBlanc and leaders representing each of the five priority areas. The audience got in the spirit by decorating signs and cheering for their administrative areas. See highlights from the celebration here, or watch the streaming video (RealPlayer required). If you’re still caught up in the excitement and want to make a difference, make your contribution now.

UTMB Celebrates Family!
On Friday, June 24, the Family Matters campaign got off to a roaring start. More than 200 members of UTMB’s extended family joined in the delegate luncheon celebration at the Tremont House Davidson Ballroom. Pictured above with Family Matters delegates are: Al Ebert, chair of the UTMB Development Board; Dr. Stobo; Fred Burns, chair of the Timeless Values, Pioneering Solutions campaign; and Dr. Al LeBlanc, chair of the Family Matters campaign. All four joined in cutting the ribbon, which officially marked the start of the campaign. Those in attendance included members of the UTMB Development Board, the Faculty and Staff Campaign Planning Committee, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Associates, School of Nursing Advisory Council, School of Allied Health Sciences Advisory Council, School of Medicine Board of Trustees, and campaign volunteers.

Family Campaign Brings Philanthropy Home
UTMB has a reputation for being a compassionate and committed institution. That is entirely due to the 13,000 employees who, no matter what role they play, are helping the academic health center fulfill its mission to be “here for the health of Texas.” That noble aspiration to care for the state’s residents is a source of pride for UTMB’s family of employees.
Members of the UTMB family now have the opportunity to demonstrate their pride in the institution through Family Matters: The Campaign for the UTMB Community. This five-year, $25 million effort funds specific initiatives that were developed by a broad-based group of UTMB employees and retirees. The initiatives include: Workforce Development; Patient Care Complex, Employee Health and Wellness; Moody Medical Library; and the Helping Hands Fund. But gifts to any of our numerous programs of excellence are welcome.
While the campus-wide kick-off is scheduled for July 15, 2005, in William C. Levin Hall, many members of the UTMB family have already made a contribution to the campaign. Having raised $6.8 million as of June 21, 2005, the Family Matters campaign is off to a great start. But there is still a long way to go.
