FINANCIAL COUNSELING PROCESS

Only current UTMB patients* can apply for discounted services at UTMB.  You must complete a formal application for financial assistance to be considered for discounted services at UTMB.   During the interview process, the financial screener will determine if you might quality for other third party programs such as Medicaid or your local County Indigent Health Program.  If referred to apply for one of these programs, you must complete the entire application process of the program with a valid result prior to receiving further consideration for receiving any discounted services at UTMB.   

  • If approved for a discount, all patients will be given a card that will have the expiration date of their current registration.   Regardless of expiration date of account, if you have any changes regarding your financial status that are different than stated on your Financial Application, our office should be notified within 14 day of the changes so that your financial status will be re-evaluated. 
  • Up to 30 days prior to the expiration date, you will need to contact Financial Counseling at (409) 772-6464. 
    They will schedule an interview time so that you may complete an application form and provide new financial documents.   A face to face interview will be required if you live within 150 miles of UTMB.

  • The Approved Document List has recently changed.   Please print the new proof list and review for appropriate documents needed to complete your financial screening. 
  • Regardless of your UTMB determined discount status, all patients are required to pay deposit fees for all services which are received at UTMB.   See Forms page for Deposit Guide and additional information. 

Failure to follow this process will result in future scheduled appointments being cancelled.  Your appointment will be rescheduled when the application process is complete.
