Dr. Hewlett received his medical degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio in 2003 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Gastroenterology at UTMB. He also completed a Masters of Clinical Sciences at UTMB’s Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Following training at UTMB, Dr. Hewlett worked at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital at Liver Specialists of Texas for a year getting more experience in advanced liver disease and transplant Hepatology with Dr. Joseph Galati. He is currently on the faculty in the Division of Gastroenterology practicing general gastroenterology and hepatology. In addition to his practice, Dr. Hewlett is engaged in research into non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and Hepatitis C non-responders; he is also working with a colleague on the pathogenesis of insulin resistance and hepatic steatosis in patients with chronic Hepatitis C. He has published several articles in medical journals on his research. Dr. Hewlett also sees patients at the Clear Lake Specialty Clinic, 2200 NASA Road 1 in Clear Lake.
