Dr. Andrew W. DuPont

          Title: Assistant Professor
          Degree: MD, MSPH

Biosketch

Dr. DuPont received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston in 1998. While in medical school he participated in a clinical trial evaluating therapy of travelersÂ’ diarrhea in Mexico. He then completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He remained at the University of Alabama-Birmingham during fellowship in Gastroenterology & Hepatology. While a fellow Dr. DuPont received a Master of Science in Public Health degree in epidemiology. As a senior gastroenterology fellow, he received advanced clinical training in the care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease. In 2004, Dr. DuPont joined UTMB as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology.

In addition to authoring several textbook chapters, Dr. DuPont has published studies evaluating cost-effectiveness of treatment strategies for various gastrointestinal disorders. He has research interests in inflammatory bowel disease, enteric infections, and cost-effectiveness analyses. His clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease and general gastrointestinal disorders.
