Biostatistics

• About Us • GCRC Map • Nursing |
Statistical support is available through consultations with the GCRC biostatistician, Dr. James Grady. Investigators are encouraged to seek assistance during the development phase of their protocols. It is at this stage that discussions of study design, including selection of an appropriate sample size, statistical analysis and data management can most benefit investigators. Investigators may also request help in writing the statistical sections of their protocols. Dr. Grady is available to meet with investigators while studies are in progress, or after data collection has been completed. For example, investigators can meet with him to discuss statistical methods for previously collected data, for manuscripts in the review process for publication, for posters for conferences and meetings, or for grants for external funding. |

Other Biostatistics Strengths at UTMB |

|
UTMB’s expertise in biostatistics encompasses a wide array of topics and specialties. The Office of Biostatistics, which is part of Department of Preventive Medicine and Community Health, is a successful campus-wide resource for statistical support and grant development. The faculty members of the Office of Biostatistics are the primary source for statistical support for physicians and other medical scientists on campus, and enjoy a long history of collaboration on grants and other research projects. The group has extensive experience with biostatistical issues that are relevant to clinical investigation. The Department of Preventive Medicine and Community Health is one of the largest of its type in the country, and has a strong record of developing clinical researchers and providing advanced training for physicians interested in public health and clinical research. As a Senior Biostatistician in the Office of Biostatistics, Dr. Grady often interfaces with investigators and other biostatisticians for establishing appropriate collaborative projects. This has been especially useful to investigators with projects that begin as small GCRC studies and, eventually, based on promising results, expand into larger studies. Dr. Grady can make referrals for services not provided at the GCRC (e.g., SAS programming, data entry), based on his knowledge about other campus services. |
