Periodically, the GCRC will request information from all investigators for its Annual Report to the NCRR/NIH as well as for other NIH requests.

The competitive renewal process, which occurs every five years, is especially important. Study protocols may need to be updated, and shorter versions prepared for the competitive renewal application. The shorter version will be prepared by the GCRC Science Writer, Animesh Chandra, Ph.D., who may be contacted at achandra@utmb.edu, and sent to the PI for verification of accuracy and for suggestions and changes

After the GCRC grant has been submitted, a team of peer review scientists and additional NIH personnel make a site visit to the GCRC at UTMB. On the day of the site visit, investigators who are major users of the GCRC will be asked to make a presentation before the review committee. Many months of planning go into a site visit, and investigators are notified well in advance of any presentation they may be requested to make. Written protocols outlining the current and proposed utilization will be requested for the competitive renewal grant application.
