Dr. Volpi obtained her MD and PhD in Applied Pathophysiology from the University of Perugia, Italy where she also completed her residency in Endocrinology and a Diabetes fellowship. She then moved to UTMB for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in metabolism and gerontology, and in 1998 she became a faculty member. In the year 2000 she moved to the University of Southern California as a faculty in the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes, Keck School of Medicine. In 2004 Dr. Volpi returned to UTMB where she continues to focus her research on the role of nutrition, insulin resistance and vascular compliance on the mechanisms of development and on the treatment of muscle loss and physical dependence with aging.
