ADA - Americans with Disabilities Act Essential Functions

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is committed to providing equal opportunity for students with disabilities and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended in 2008 (ADAAA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and state and local requirements regarding students with disabilities.

It is the policy of Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) that no otherwise qualified and competitive individual with a disability will be denied access to or participation in services, programs, and activities of GSBS solely on the basis of their disability, pursuant to the ADAAA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, provided that the individual demonstrates the ability to meet the essential functions with or without a reasonable accommodations set forth herein.

Upon matriculation, students attest to their ability to fulfill these requirements.  GSBS will engage in the interactive process, with UTMB’s Institutional ADA Office and the student to determine what, if any, reasonable accommodations can be provided.
