UTMB Identity System--Multimedia/Specialty Items

UTMB bumpersticker

Specialty items
Items such as pens, pencils, mugs, T-shirts and other giveaways should include the UTMB logo. In many cases, the logo must be smaller than 2" across on these items. When that's the case, the full university name should be dropped from the logo. The star-and-field graphic should never appear alone on a specialty item.

If space is available, the full name of the university can be spelled out separately from the logo, in one of the approved typefaces. The themeline can be incorporated as well, as appropriate. Again, let legibility be your guide. Artwork for specialty items must be reviewed by Public Affairs prior to production.

Videos

Video productions featuring UTMB departments or services should feature the approved animated version of the logo that has been specially developed for this medium. Public Affairs will provide copies of the logo animation on videotape for use by outside production companies who are producing a UTMB video. (Please note: The animated logo should not be used on university web pages. It is reserved for use in videos exclusively.)

Scripts should be reviewed by the Public Affairs Office to ensure accuracy and consistency with UTMB's image. (Public Affairs should review scripts for broadcast advertisements as well.) It's also a good idea to run the final product by Public Affairs before it is duplicated or broadcast, to ensure the logo is used properly.

If you use an outside vendor to produce a video for your area and you plan to shoot on campus, please let the Office of Public Affairs know in advance. Public Affairs can help you arrange the necessary permissions through Campus Police and can advise you on securing any required releases from people who might appear in the video.

Powerpoint
Two PowerPoint templates that includes the new logo are now available.

Poster sessions
Presentations and poster sessions should feature the UTMB logo, rather than the seal. Text should be set in one of the approved typefaces.

Signage and university vehicles
The logo and approved fonts will be incorporated into major university signage and official vehicle nameplates over a period of time. If you need signage for your department or for an official UTMB vehicle, contact Biocommunications/Academic Services for assistance.

Email signatures
Adding a graphic to an email signature is becoming a popular way to "dress up" emails. There are good and not-so-good aspects of this concept that should be considered: adding the UTMB logo to an email signature shows support for the institution, and is another way to promote the university's new identity. On the other hand, graphics add to an email's file size, increase the traffic load on the email servers, display as an attachment in the recipient's In Box, and may cause In Box space (already limited) to fill up faster.

A special version of the logo has been created for those who have decided that the benefits of including a logo in their signature outweigh the disadvantages. This version of the logo is clearly legible, yet doesn't add too much to an email's size. The email version of the logo can be found on the Downloads page in Resources

Desktop wallpaper
A version of the logo that can be used as desktop wallpaper on a Windows PC is available in the Downloads section of this site.
