The following
information covers how the identity system should be specifically
incorporated into various promotional materials. However, we realize it
is impossible to anticipate every situation in which the logo should be
used. If you are producing a promotional publication and are not sure
how best to apply the standards, call the Public Affairs Office at (409)
772-2618 for assistance.

Letterhead and business
cards
Because of sheer volume and scope of usage, letterhead and business
cards are key components of the UTMB graphic identity program.
Approved letterhead and
business cards are available from UTMB Printing Services. Other vendors
may be used, as long as the quality is consistent with that provided by
Printing Services, all graphic standards related to letterhead and
business cards are followed, and all Purchasing guidelines regarding use
of off-campus vendors are followed. Because of the quality standard
associated with letterhead and business cards, these items should not be
produced on inkjet printers. If you need to order letterhead or business
cards from an off-campus vendor, please contact Public Affairs at (409)
772-2618 for appropriate guidelines.
For maximum
cost-effectiveness throughout the institution, personalized letterhead
featuring an individual's name is recommended only for members of
President's Council, institute and Sealy Center directors, department
chairs, and faculty holding named professorships.

Recommended sizes for
UTMB brochures are:

one of the approved typefaces

customized logo
- Brochures can feature a
photograph or illustration on the front cover for graphic appeal.
- Photographic Services, a
division of Academic Services, maintains an extensive file of UTMB
photographs. The staff also will do custom photo shoots.
- Illustrations should be
in keeping with the university's reputation as a leading academic
medical center. Generally, illustrations should not feature the
department/entity name, because the resulting graphic might be
construed as a distinct department logo.
- All body copy and
headlines in brochures must be set in one of the approved typefaces.
- If your brochure
features a mailer panel, ask Mail Services to review it to make sure
it meets current U.S. Postal Service regulations.
- An institutional or
customized logo should be included on the mailer panel.
Newsletters
- Newsletters must
feature the UTMB logo on the front cover.
- The logo should also be
incorporated into the mailer panel.
- Newsletter mastheads
should feature the name of the publication in one of the approved
typefaces.
- All body copy and
headlines must be set in one of the approved typefaces.
Posters and flyers
- Headlines for posters
and flyers should appear at the top of the page.
- A UTMB logo must appear
on the poster or flyer, usually at the bottom.
- Photographs,
appropriate illustrations and/or text in one of the approved
typefaces should make up the body of the poster or flyer.
Advertisements
- All university display
ads (those not done as small, text-only classified ads) must include
the UTMB logo, generally at the bottom of the image area. The
university seal cannot be used in place of the logo.
- Ads should feature a
headline at the top of the image area.
- Headlines and body copy
should be in one of the approved UTMB typefaces.
- Photographs or
appropriate illustrations can be incorporated as appropriate and as
space allows.
All ads must be
approved as follows:
- Public Affairs (all
ads)

(faculty and staff recruitment ads)
- Institutional Review
Board (clinical trials ads)
Web sites
Web sites constitute a significant component of our graphic identity
because of their vast reach. However, the electronic medium requires a
different set of standards related to appearance of the logo, approved
colors and typefaces, and compliance with certain UTMB and state
policies related to electronic communication. Refer to UTMB's specific
web standards.
