UTMB Web Page Standards

Design and Visual Standards
UTMB offers a tremendous wealth of information from hundreds of sites hosted on many web servers within the university's web domain. The challenge has been to visually tie together or unify these many sites. As impressive as any of these sites are alone, collectively, the body of work truly underscores UTMB's overall impact, service and contribution to the health of Texas, the nation and the globe.

There is one primary objective driving these visual standards: Any visitor to a UTMB web page should immediately recognize the page as one published by and belonging to the university.

The elements outlined in these guidelines also address other important objectives: legibility, enhancing and improving access, making pages "search friendly," compliance with state requirements, compatibility with different browsers and computer platforms.

While visuals are important in today's web landscape, content still reigns supreme. The information, applications and functional tools that pages offer are what make the web valuable. These standards were created with a focus on content.

UTMB logo

The Institutional Logo
The May 2001 introduction of UTMB's new star-and-field graphic was a catalyst for the implementation of these new standards. The mark plays a central role in the new, more consistent look planned for UTMB's many web pages. On every page, the mark should be placed in the top 150 pixels of the page, left of center, and linked back to the UTMB Home Page ( http://www.utmb.edu/ ).

Some Identity System guidelines apply to all versions of the logo, in all mediums, and should not be overlooked. Please review these guidelines, in addition to the information on this page.

Approved web versions of the logo are offered online in the Resources section of this site. (Logos for use in printed publications and for word processing programs are also available.)

Different versions of the same graphic are offered for web use, with and without navigation bars, to accommodate users' distinct applications. In general, many of the same rules and conditions that apply to usage of the mark in print apply online.

The mark should never be re-colored, modified, or otherwise altered, except as noted in the styleguide.

The UTMB seal should never be used on the web.     The UTMB seal should never be used on the web.

The University Seal
The university seal should not be used on the web, in any form. It's reserved for more formal applications and is not interchangeable with the star-and-field logo.
