Updated: Administrative Leave – Weather (ALW) EXTENDED thru January 23, 2009!
Effective Jan. 3, 2009, ALW* will continue for all employees who are available to work, IF the following apply (as determined by their Business Unit Leader):

Work facilities are not operational; and
-
Work assignment is not conducive to telecommuting (e.g., nurses, researchers, clinical technicians); AND
-
An alternative work site is not available.
*ALW will be coded as follows:
ALW is used only to supplement employee’s time so that they continue to receive their fully appointed hours per pay period. If using ALW, employees may not record more than their appointed hours per pay period with any combination of pay codes.
Please note the following change: After January 23rd, employees will begin using their accumulated accruals (with the exception of sick leave), as needed.

How do I find out if I meet or do not meet ALW criteria?
Answer: The first step is to let your supervisor know that you are ready to work. Then your immediate supervisor, in conjunction with the Business Unit Leader, will determine whether or not you meet the ALW criteria.

What if I cannot return to work due to my personal situation/obligations?
Answer: If you do not meet the ALW criteria, then you may use your accruals, (with the exception of sick leave) to maintain your pay check. You will need to contact your supervisor and departmental time keeper to ensure that your time is reported accurately.

What if I do not have any accruals?
Answer: You will need to discuss your situation with your supervisor, and you may be placed on “Leave Without Pay” (LWOP).

If my building is not operational yet, then what do I do?
Answer: Your supervisor will notify you of the changes in normal business operations and will outline expectations with you. You may be assigned to an alternative work site or be approved to telecommute. It is important to keep in contact frequently with your supervisor.

How will I clock in/out if I’m at an alternative work site?
Answer: You will need to submit timesheets to your supervisor, noting the hours worked each day.

Will my check with AWL always be the same amount as pre-Ike?
Answer: The intent of ALW is to supplement employees’ time so that they continue to receive their fully appointed hours per pay period, which may or may not equate to the same amount of their pre-Hurricane Ike net pay.

How will I know when I’m supposed to return to my normal work routine?
Answer: Your supervisor will review work requirements and operational status with you on a weekly basis.
