Alumni
Melissa Astala is a trial lawyer who defends doctors, hospitals and other healthcare providers in matters involving alleged medical negligence. In addition to her law degree from the University of Houston Law Center in Houston, Texas, Ms. Astala also holds a Master's degree in Medical Humanities from the Institute for Medical Humanities at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Her experiences and education at the Institute, including a clinical practicum at UTMB's John Sealy Hospital, gave her a new insight and appreciation for the work of physicians and health care providers, which serves her well in her current practice. Melissa grew up in Houston, Texas. She attended St. Stephen's Episcopal School in Austin, Texas and is one of her class representatives. She is a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and serves as webmaster for the Houston Night Alumnae Association. She enjoys cooking, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. Ms. Astala's analytical style and natural energy are great assets to her clients. Awarded The Conley, Rose & Tayon, P.C. 2002 Writing Award for Distinguished paper in Intellectual Property. This paper was published in the Houston Business and Tax Law Journal in spring, 2003. The title was, "Wronged by a Professor? Breach of a Fiduciary Duty in Intellectual Property Infringement Cases." |
