Please join us in congratulating Susan Night for receiving one of the 2006 Professionalism Project Awards. This award will fund a project proposal she submitted along with Dr. Cheryl Vaiani as well as others from UTMB. Dr. Howard Brody is the sponsor. Their project focuses on conscience clauses or laws that allow health-care professionals to refuse to participate in certain job-related activities based upon their religious or philosophical beliefs and the ways they might conflict with professional obligations. The Professionalism Charter Subcommittee of the UTMB Professionalism Board sought proposals for the 2006 Professionalism Project Awards. This project has been created in an effort to increase the discussions and activities around the commitments of the UTMB Professionalism Charter across the campus. The Subcommittee is particularly interested in initiatives that involve multidisciplinary and/or cross-functional teams. The Professionalism Charter Subcommittee, along with the UTMB President, reviewed all proposals and made final selections. Awardees have one year to complete their projects and will be expected to participate in an institution-wide Professionalism Summit that will be held in October 2007. A Presidential Professionalism Award will be given at the summit to the project judged to be the most innovative and effective.
