Even small groups can make all the difference

By Merle Lenihan
The Daily News

Margaret Mead, the 20th-century anthropologist, is widely quoted as saying: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”

On Oct. 21, a group of thoughtful, committed citizens joined together for the D'Feet Breast Cancer Organization's annual fun run and walk. Nearly 100 survivors of breast cancer came to the event to share in the dedication of the Sara P. Rose Breast Cancer Survivor Hospitality Area. There were more than 2,000 participants in this year's racing events. For some participants, it was a chance to come to Galveston for a certified 5K or 10K racing event; for others, it was a way to honor friends and family who have been affected by breast cancer; and for many people, it was both.
