The Advocacy Team of the UTMB Academy of Master Teachers sent a call for nominations for the 2009 AMT Lifetime Achievement Award. This prestigious award, first presented in 2008, recognizes UTMB faculty identified by their colleagues to have made long-standing, important, and high-quality contributions to the educational missions of their respective UTMB schools throughout their careers. Nominees did not have to be AMT members and included current and emeriti faculty. Elements for nomination and selection included the nominees' teaching quality and quantity, recognition and honors for educational efforts, and educational scholarship. This year, the award was presented to a School of Medicine faculty member. The other schools will be represented annually on a rotating basis. Eight SOM faculty were nominated by their peers. Dr. Jackie Collins was named the 2009 recipient and Dr. Daneshvari Solanki was the runner-up. Other nominees for the 2009 award included Drs. Michael Ainsworth, Patricia Beach, Ron Carson, Ruth Levine, Virginia Niebuhr and Melvyn Schreiber. This award was presented at the May 15, 2009 AMT Education Symposium.
