IMH Happenings9/2/2009Please join us in congratulating one of our alums, Dr. Ryan Greysen, who started the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program (RWJCSP) at Yale University this past July. It is one of four sites that offer the two-year program (Yale, Michigan, UCLA, Penn) which is designed to build research and leadership skills for physicians who have completed residency training. You can read more about the program online http://rwjcsp.yale.edu/ and bio's about all the scholars, including Ryan, at this URL http://rwjcsp.yale.edu/scholars.php. On the RWJCSP website they state that “The Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at Yale University prepares physicians to become leaders in improving the nation's health and healthcare. Through coursework, practical experiences, interaction with healthcare leaders and research, the Program provides opportunities to work across disciplines and think creatively and rigorously about healthcare issues. The unique learning environment of the Program prepares Scholars to generate ideas and test hypotheses, work within communities, participate in policy development, and lead organizational change.” Ryan received his Master's degree from the IMH in 2001. The title of his thesis was A Place for Piety: The Role of Religion in Early Anglo-American Texts on Medical Ethics. His advisor was the late Dr. Chester R. Burns. In 2003, he earned a Master of Arts degree in history and sociology of medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. He then came back to UTMB and got his MD. After completing residency in primary care internal medicine at the George Washington University, he joined the faculty as a hospitalist at the Washington VAMC and researcher in the Department of Health Policy. Dr. Greysen's research interests focus on intersections of health policy and medical education including quality improvement, disparities in care, workforce expansion, medical student debt, diversity, and primary care.
