The setting sun, an ivy-covered brick building and three acres of lush grapevines at the Haak Vineyards & Winery in Santa Fe, Texas served as the backdrop for a recent gathering of the UTMB Parents Council.
This special meet and greet networking event for parents of UTMB students was a follow-up to the Proud Parents Luncheon that was held in conjunction with the university’s Welcome Weekend in August.
Mignerey spoke about the construction of the new hospital as one of the key priorities of the campaign and highlighted the student-related aspects of the facility. “This new hospital will provide a state-of-the-art training platform for your children – tomorrow’s healthcare leaders,” she said.
To show their support, the Parents Council Advisory Board pledged $15,000 over a five-year period to support the construction of the Jennie Sealy Hospital through a naming opportunity. Made possible by a combination of membership support and donations, the UTMB Parents Council Nourishment Station will be located on the 11th floor of the new hospital.
Nourishment stations will help accommodate the needs of patients and their family members during their stay at the hospital.
“This is our chance, as parents, to leave a lasting legacy at UTMB,” said Pam Hill, member of the Parents Council Advisory Board and signer of the pledge. “It is even more exciting to support the education of our children through the new hospital.”
The Parents Council, established in 2008, enhances communication between parents and the university and provides a support network to enhance the educational experience for all students.
