Cameron W. Slocum, MBA, vice president and chief operating officer of the Academic Enterprise, recently was honored as a recipient of the Houston Business Journal's 40 Under 40 Award during an awards banquet on May 24 in Houston. Of the 200 applicants under the age of 40, an impressive group of 40 individuals were selected for their entrepreneurial accomplishments and trailblazing work, and for the impact they are making in the Houston community.
Slocum has been employed at UTMB since 1998, and rose rapidly into a number of key roles overseeing financial, operational, and strategic functions within the institution. As UTMB’s Academic Enterprise COO, he helps to develop the financial and operational infrastructure to implement new programs, improving health care options throughout the Houston-Galveston area. He is responsible for financial, operational, and strategic functions within the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions, and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, as well as all Academic Support functions. He leads a highly effective team who work arduously to achieve the goals of the Academic Enterprise and the missions of UTMB. He also serves as Executive Director of the Faculty Group Practice.
The American Academy of Ambulatory Nurses (AAACN) has endorsed The Telehealth Managers Toolkit. This is designed to be a resource for managers and leaders by the AAACN TeleHealth Nurse Practice Special Interest Group. The 70 page publication reviews hiring and interviewing for a call center, managing urgent calls, remote nurse programs, and quality assurance suggestions, and much more.
Pam Kuchta, Nurse Triage Manager, UTMB Access Center was co editor and contributing author. She is the National Co-Chair of AAACN’s Tele-Health Group and recently presented in Orlando. Kuchtahas been with UTMB 16 years in the Access Center. She developed a three-part miniseries for CEU credit on Telephone Triage Assessment, “It’s Not Just A Phone Call Anymore”. She will be presenting June 21st at the Regional Maternal Child Health Conference in Houston.
UTMB Ob/Gyn Maternal Fetal Medicine faculty, Dr. Michel Makhlouf, was staffing the OB ultrasound clinic in the Pasadena RMCHP clinic when one of the patients, Angelina Vargas, came into clinic in active preterm labor and about to deliver. Dr Makhlouf rode with her in the ambulance to the nearest hospital and delivered her baby, Kimberly, in the elevator. He is pictured here with Angelina and 10-month-old Kimberly during a recent office visit.
