MAY 26, 2004--Six members of the UTMB community recently completed the more than 90-mile bicycle journey from Houston to Shiner as part of the 15th annual Shiner BASH (Bicycle Austin, San Antonion, Houston). The event raises money for the American Lung Association of Texas. Pictured from left to right are Dr. Victor Cardenas, Jr., associate professor and acting chief of pulmonary medicine, Dr. Dmitry Portnoy, assistant professor of anesthesiology, Dr. Doug Brining, a staff veterinarian with the Animal Resource Center, Dr. James Rice, associate professor of nephrology, Dr. Eric Walser, associate professor of radiology and director of interventional radiology, and Gary Seale, clinical director at the Transitional Learning Center. The Shiner BASH is one of the state's longest running bike rides, with riders starting in three cities and converging in the historic Shiner, Texas.
