Kim Tindel, RN, BSN has been promoted to a critical new role at UTMB – Director for the Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes, scheduled to open later this spring. A 1987 graduate of the UTMB School of Nursing, Kim has worked at UTMB for over 20 years in various roles as staff nurse, practice coordinator and senior practice manager.

Recently, Kim took time from her busy schedule to provide us with an insight into her new role and a glimpse at her personal side.

Let’s get to know Kim a little better…

How will Victory Lakes help shape UTMB’s future?
The Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes is a great opportunity for UTMB to expand its presence to the surrounding Galveston County communities and provide patients with access to services of an academic medical center in a community type setting.  The center will provide quality, cost-effective and convenient comprehensive care.  Not only will The Specialty Care Center meet the patient’s needs, it will support academic programs and revenue growth.

In what ways do you think your experience as a staff nurse will help you in your new role as Director for the Specialty Care Clinics?
I believe my nursing knowledge provides me with the ability to put the best interest of staff and patients first, which will help me to be successful in my management role.  Having the ability to see the whole concept allows me to understand and meet the needs of the staff and patients we serve.

What do you like to do for fun?
I love to scrapbook.  It is a great stress reliever.

What is the one thing most people would be surprised to learn about you?
 I don’t have any children.

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?
I would love to go to Rome.

What is your favorite quote?
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.
