Emergency Department receives award for support of employees in National Guard and Reserves
APRIL 24, 2007--UTMB’s Emergency Medicine Department recently received the “Patriot Award” Certificate of Appreciation for its continued support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. Dr. John Fraser, an emergency room physician as well as a preventive medicine officer and pediatrician with the 804th Medical Brigade headquarters company of the U.S. Army Reserves, presented the award to Dr. Brian Zachariah, director of emergency medicine, during the department’s recent staff meeting. Fraser nominated his department and expressed his appreciation for the ongoing support demonstrated for him while he is out of the office on active duty. Zachariah said the award recognizes the efforts of everyone in the department who steps up in Fraser’s absence, enabling him to serve his country just as he serves the local community.
