Rowe helping UTMB reach matching grant goal

JUNE 19, 2007--Eva Rowe and attorney Brent Coon present UTMB President John D. Stobo with two checks for $50,000 each. The contributions will go toward the Remembering the 15 Fund, which supports delivery of state-of-the-art clinical care to adult burn patients treated in the Blocker Burn Unit at the John Sealy Hospital. It was established in connection with a settlement between Eva Rowe, 22, who lost parents James and Linda Rowe in a 2005 explosion, and BP Products North America Inc.
Rowe and UTMB are working to help raise $2 million in philanthropic contributions that BP will match dollar for dollar. This challenge grant—a vital complement to the Remembering the 15 Fund, established through an additional commitment of $12.5 million by BP—recognizes that the infrastructure for patient care is vital to the ongoing effort to devise new clinical tools and care delivery techniques for the treatment of adult burn patients.
UTMB will use these funds both for education and research aimed at reducing mortality for those with the most severe burns, and to improve and expand the clinical facilities where these new approaches can be tested. The generous fund and matching challenge component will help make it possible for UTMB to improve survival rates, reduce pain and enhance the quality of life among adult burn patients, including those who are seriously injured in industrial accidents.
The deadline for contributions to the challenge grant is June 30. Click here for information about how you can make your pledge today.
