Callender visits with staff at Hospital and Nurses week kick-off

MAY 8, 2007--MAY 8, 2007--Monday marked the beginning of Hospital and Nurses Week on the UTMB campus. The celebrations and special events run through Friday, May 11.
Dr. David L. Callender, sole finalist for the position of UTMB president, was on campus Monday visiting with several members of the UTMB community. He joined President Stobo and other university leaders in greeting and thanking staff at the kick-off event. Callender, who also spoke at the Town Meeting Monday afternoon, currently serves as associate vice chancellor and chief executive officer of the UCLA Hospital System in Los Angeles, is an adjunct professor of surgery at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and a member of the governing board of the University Health Consortium. Callender previously held numerous positions at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. The UT System Board of Regents is expected to finalize its selection for president at its quarterly meeting this week in Austin.
