Hurricane IKE has devastated Galveston and, although most of the BMB space was spared, the storm inflicted great damage on UTMB. We are now dealing with dramatic personal losses as well as professional losses of time and in some cases of reagents or samples. This comes at a time when the global financial news does not inspire confidence for the future. The good news is that certainly within a couple of weeks the education and research missions will resume. The clinical component, being more complex, may take some time. But I know that each of us wants to know how this will affect his or her career and job security.

- Our Faculty and students participate in the various graduate programs in UTMB's Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and our curriculum strongly addresses furthering knowledge of the molecular nature of biomedical phenomena and translating that knowledge for patient benefit.
