The Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is a fully accredited ACGME training program in geriatric medicine for graduates of internal medicine or family medicine residencies. Board eligibility in geriatric medicine is awarded after successfully completing 12 months of training.

The geriatric track at UTMB is a four-year learning experience that provides a unique opportunity to enhance knowledge, skill sets, values and expertise in the care of older adults.

We are a 20 bed nursing unit devoted to care of the age 65 and over medical and surgical acute inpatient population. The ACE concept includes a specialized physical environment, a strong interdisciplinary team and a focus on preventing iatrogenic complications, maintaining physical function, and ensuring a safe discharge for our patients.

The department of internal medicine is developing evidence based clinical protocols which will be available in EPIC (as order sets) for use when admitting patients with these diagnoses. Their AIM is to standardize care and decrease length of stay and readmission rates.
