The UTMB Chronic Home Dialysis unit recently received a Recognized Facility Status in the area of Peritoneal Dialysis Severe Anemia Management for 2010 from the End Stage Renal Disease Network of Texas, Inc. Medical Review Board. This recognition was achieved by ranking in the top 10 percent of all Texas facilities for one or more core indicators during the 2010 Quality of Care project.
The Home Dialysis Unit at UTMB, located on the fourth floor of the University Hospital Clinics building, offers home dialysis as an option to anyone requiring dialysis. This service enables patients and their families the privilege of performing treatments in the privacy and comfort of their own home.
In July 2011, the Division of Nephrology and hypertension will reopen the Renal Ward within John Sealy Hospital. The Renal Ward will have 10 beds dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of the entire spectrum of renal.

The department of internal medicine is developing evidence based clinical protocols which will be available in EPIC (as order sets) for use when admitting patients with these diagnoses. Their AIM is to standardize care and decrease length of stay and readmission rates.
