Our residency program is defined most of all by the close-knit nature of our residents themselves. Year-round gatherings are a mainstay of the UTMB resident culture, and occur at our program director's home on the island, various restaurants, and at Galveston's multiple convention sites including the San Luis Convention Center and the Moody Gardens Convention Center. Residents bring their families, are frequently joined by faculty, and take full advantage of everything the island has to offer. What's it like to live in Galveston? See some pictures below, and click here to find out more!
- Intern Welcoming Party:
Current and graduating residents and faculty gather to welcome the incoming intern class
- Recruitment Party:
Discuss ideas and become excited about our new applicants
- Halloween Party:
Attendants are encouraged to dress in costume
- Christmas Party:
Residents and Faculty each bring a gift for the White Elephant Exchange.
- Casino Night:
Residents play casino games for raffle tickets and prizes
We honor the achievements of our graduating preliminary interns and 3rd year residents in a formal setting, often with the residents' parents and other family members. Awards are announced, and a video highlighting that year's events is shown.
- Liver Rounds:
The residency program also hosts a Liver Rounds at the end of each 4 week block. These are typically sponsored educational dinners that occur at various local restaurants such as Willie G's and Olympia Grill. Our residents listen to an educational speaker, and celebrate their achievements during the last block.
