Dr. Pilar Acosta Lara
Department of Internal Medicine
Dr. Acosta-Lara is Chief Resident and Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine. She is originally from Tampico, México. Her educational background includes a MD from the Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas. Dr. Acosta-Lara completed an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Here she was chosen amongst her peers to serve as chief resident and is currently pursuing a career in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Why UTMB? "I chose UTMB to do my Internal Medicine residency training because of the diversity of diseases seen here. The program provides an enriched clinical experience that is unparalleled. Training here affords the opportunity to not only learn about the "bread and butter" of medicine, but allows exposure to more rare entities. Camaraderie among house staff is unmatched. There are wonderful didactic conferences, great clinical teaching, and support from program leadership to make changes the residents feel are important. I have enjoyed all the opportunities that the residency training has provided me, including serving as a Chief Resident this year."
