Medical Residents and Fellows

Foreign-born medical doctors who received their medical degree(s) abroad are commonly referred to as International Medical Graduates (IMG’s). Many IMG’s seek post-graduate medical training at UTMB. Special regulations with regard to licensure and visa status apply. It is the policy of the UTMB Division of Graduate Medical Education that IMG’s complete medical residency and fellowship programs only under the J-1 exchange visitor visa program of the Educational Commission on Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Maria C. Arevalo, International Consultant, Office of International Affairs, is the UTMB Training Program Liaison (TPL) for ECFMG. All applications for J-1 visa sponsorship for clinical training under ECFMG must be reviewed, signed, and forwarded for action by Ms. Arevalo.

Pre-Arrival Data Sheet - Must be completed by all foreign nationals seeking visas status for UTMB and provided to prospective UTMB supervisor who will forward it to the Office of International Affairs with the visa request.
