Changes of ECFMG Approved Medical Training Programs

Eligibility for J-1 visa status under the ECFMG program is strictly controlled. J-1 documents are issued only for ACGME (http://www.acgme.org) approved medical residency and fellowship programs. Medical training already completed abroad is a factor in determining eligibility for any U.S. program.

Any proposed change of program or training level must be approved by ECFMG well in advance of entering the new program. ECFMG approval of a change of program or level cannot be guaranteed.
