UTMB’s  TELEHEALTH PROGRAM
UTMB’s  Telehealth Program, currently among the most distinguished in the nation, is ranked by Telemedicine and Telehealth Networks magazine as one of the top 10 such programs in the country. The program provides a powerful new tool to deliver preventative, diagnostic and specialty health care services to thousands of indigent women and children without the sometimes lengthy, costly and burdensome trip to Galveston.

One of our highest priorities is to bring together our Regional, Maternal and Child Health Program with our successful Telehealth Program. As such, these programs will expand, strengthen and make more accessible our health care services for the women and children served through RMCHP.

In April 1991, our Telehealth and Distance Education Project was inducted into a permanent research collection on information technology at the Smithsonians National Museum of American History.

In August 1991, Telehealth Magazine named UTMB, the University of Vermont, Allina Health System in Minneapolis and Texas Tech University as the four members of its telehealth Hall of Fame, a designation that recognizes pioneers in the use of teletechnologies to provide patient care.
