If your organization has enabled it, you can call your voice mail to check
messages or to change your voice mail greeting. Your voice mail messages also
appear in your Microsoft Outlook Inbox.
What do you want to do?
Set up
voice mail through Lync 2010
To set up voice mail:
- Open Lync, and, in the Lync main window, click the Phone
icon.
- Below the dial pad, click the Display voice mail options
button, and then click Set Up Voice Mail.
- When Outlook Web App opens, sign in.
- In Phones options, click New Rule.
- In the New Rule dialog box, in the Name
box, type a name for the rule.
- Under Add Conditions, click to add and specify the
conditions for sending calls to voice mail.
- Under Add Actions the Caller Can Select, click to specify
further choices.
- Under Greetings and Prompts, click the Play on
Phone link, and then click Save in the message that
appears.
- Click Dial. Outlook dials your voice mail service.
- Follow the voice prompts to record your greeting.
- On the screen, to the right of Dial This Phone Number,
click the X button.
- In the New Rule dialog box, click Save and
Close.
- Click Save, and close the Outlook Web App window.

Specify the delay before calls go
to voice mail
To specify the time delay before calls go to voice mail:
- In the Lync main window, click the Options button
, and then click Call Forwarding.
- Click the link by Unanswered calls will go to.
- In the Send unanswered calls to the following list, click
Voice Mail.
- Specify how many seconds you want to delay before sending incoming calls
to voice mail, and then click OK.

View and listen to voice mail in
Lync 2010
If you have unheard voice mail messages, the Phone icon, in
the Lync main window, glows and displays a small number. If you click the icon,
you’ll see unheard messages listed below the dial pad. The most recent messages
are shown in bold.
- In the Lync main window, click the Phone icon.
- To hear a message, click the green arrow.
- (Optional) To follow up on a voice mail and call the person back, point to
the message, and then click Call.
Note The Conversations list, in
the Lync main window, contains any missed phone calls that did not generate
voice mail messages.

Delete a voice mail
To delete a voice mail:
- In the Lync main window, click the Phone icon.
- Below the dial pad, right-click the voice mail that you want to delete,
and then click Delete Item.

Call your voice mail from Lync 2010
To call your voice mail:
- In the Lync main window, click the Phone icon.
- Below the dial pad, click the Display voice mail options
button, and then click Call Voice Mail.
- Use the dial pad in the Lync main window or Conversation window to enter
your PIN.

Call a contact’s voice mail
directly
To call a contact’s voice mail:
- In your Contacts list, point to the contact, and then click the Call menu.
- Click Voice Mail.

contact card.

Change your greeting
To change your voice mail greeting:
- In the Lync main window, click the Phone icon.
- Below the dial pad, click the Display voice mail options
button, and then click Set Up Voice Mail. When Outlook Web App
opens, sign in.
- In Phone options, under Outlook Voice
Access, click the Play on Phone link.
- Follow the voice prompts to record your greeting.
- In the Phone options, click Save, and
close the Outlook Web App window.
