Harmless Mosquito Virus Could Bring Benefits for Humans

Guidry News

UTMB researchers have made an unexpected discovery in a 30-year-old Israeli mosquito sample: a previously unknown virus that’s related to some of the world’s most dangerous mosquito-borne pathogens but unable to infect non-insect hosts. Researchers believe this attribute could make the virus a useful tool for studying its deadly relatives, and aid in the development of new vaccines, therapies and diagnostic techniques. Coverage also appears in Science DailyThe Times of India and Healthcanal.com.
