Attention Blood Donors: Critical Shortage of Type O Negative

Due to an extremely high usage in the last few weeks, the UTMB Blood Center is experiencing a critical shortage of type O Negative. If you are currently available to give blood, please consider donating for the patients at UTMB and Shriners Burns Hospital.

Did you know........

v Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood.

v One out of 10 people admitted in the hospital needs blood.

v A single car accident/burn victim can require as many as a 100 units of blood.

v UTMB and Shriners Burns Hospital needs an average of 30 units a day, to adequately supply patients with blood and blood components.

Although O Negative donors are currently in critical need, all blood types are welcome. All successful donors will receive a pullover hoodie (while supplies last).

For any questions, please call the UTMB Donor Room at 409-772-4861.
