Dr. Pamela Watson, dean of the UTMB School of
Nursing and vice president of education for UTMB, earned a Diploma in Nursing from the Massachusetts General Hospital
School of Nursing. She subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and
Master of Science Degree from Boston University School of Nursing. In 1982,
she was awarded a Doctor of Science Degree in Rehabilitation
Counseling/Psychology from Boston University.
Dr.
Watson's past administrative experience includes the position of Chair of
the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs for the College of Health
Professions at Thomas Jefferson University, which she held from 1987 until
November 2001. Clinically, Dr. Watson's practice primarily focused on the
rehabilitation of individuals dealing with catastrophic life events
including injury and cancer. Her research efforts currently focus on health
promotion and disease prevention. For the past seven years she served as
Principal Investigator on a NIH-National Institute of Diabetes Digestive and
Kidney Disease (NIH-NIDDK) funded clinical trial, related to the prevention
of type-2 diabetes at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania.
Over the years, Dr. Watson has
authored many articles on rehabilitation, cancer rehabilitation, research
methods, and nursing education. She has actively sought and secured funding
for many grants. She is active in local and national professional
organizations. She is now serving a second term on the Board of Directors of
the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and serves as Chair
of the AACN Governmental Affairs Committee.
