Clinical Purchasing is responsible for securing the purchase of supplies, equipment and services for UTMB's clinical enterprise (hospitals and clinics), in a manner that is consistent with best value principles, applicable laws and regulations, and best industry practices.  We process purchase requisitions, determine appropriate purchasing methods, obtain quotes, develop specifications, and solicit bids and Requests for Proposals (RFP's).

The purpose of clinical purchasing is to implement a process to support clinical operations in the effective acquisition and management of supplies, materials, equipment, and services to meet the following objectives:

• Product Standardization

• Formulary Implementation and Management

• Utilization Management

•  Cost Reduction Strategy Implementation

•  Vendor/Supplier Management

•  Acquisition Services and Support Improvement
