The Surplus Property Warehouse at The University of Texas Medical Branch is responsible for the transfer, storage, and ultimate disposition of furniture and equipment that are surplus to the needs of the university.

Departments send a variety of items to Surplus. At any given time our inventory could include computers, printers, monitors, cameras, televisions, desks, chairs, file cabinets, copiers, tables, and research equipment. We also have refrigerators, freezers, bicycles, small appliances, tools, and electrical equipment. Health-care equipment that we may have includes exam tables, scales, dental chairs, dental tools, hospital beds, gurneys, and x-ray machines. Scientific equipment in stock could be centrifuges, oscilloscopes and microscopes. Some, but not all, of what we receive is in working order.

The primary objective of the Surplus Property Warehouse is to return to use by UTMB departments, other state agencies, local Texas Independent School Districts (ISD’s), and certain non-profit organizations property that has been declared surplus.

Surplus property that is not reclaimed is then publicly sold to the highest bidder.
