LABORATORY INFORMATION SERVICES
Laboratory Information Services is charged with the development, operation and management of the Laboratory Information System (LIS) in the Department of Pathology. LIS compiles, archives and transmits patient care information generated in the service laboratories of the Pathology Department. LIS strives to provide to clients, on and off campus, current and state -of-the-art technology and service. Main location: 5.208 John Sealy Annex. Telephone numbers: Laboratory Report Forms Interim Reports are printed after 11 a.m. on the unit printer of some nursing units. The report contains all laboratory results verified since the Daily Summary was printed. This report is printed on plain white paper and is available for physician use. It is not placed on the patient chart. Daily Summary Reports are printed each day and include all laboratory results verified since the last Weekly Summary. The report has a yellow stripe on the right hand edge of the paper. Most of these reports are delivered to the nursing units by 5:30 a.m. by the laboratory via pneumatic tube system. A blue banner sheet accompanies the reports for each unit. The person receiving the reports must sign the banner sheet along with the date and time of receipt and return it to the laboratory via the pneumatic tube system. The reports are placed in the patients chart and replaced each day new reports are received. Weekly Summary Reports are printed each Tuesday night and are delivered Wednesday morning. They contain all laboratory results verified over the last week. The report has a pink stripe on the right hand edge of the paper. These reports are delivered in the same manner as the Daily Summaries. The reports are placed on the patient chart and all Daily Summary reports (yellow) are removed. The Weekly Summary remains in the patients chart as long as the patient is on the unit. Discharge Summary Reports are printed after the patient is discharged and contain all results completed. The report has a blue stripe on the right hand edge of the paper. These reports are delivered to Medical Records. All Daily (yellow) and Weekly (pink) Summaries are removed and the Discharge Summary is placed in the patients medical record. Pathology Report is printed as the case is verified and it is delivered to the nursing unit mid-day. The Physicians copy is printed with the pink stripe and should not be placed in the patients chart. The medical record copy is printed with the blue stripe and must be placed in the patients chart. The medical record copy is the final report and must never be removed from the chart. |
