Biopsy Tissue Examination

Common Collection Errors | AutoCyte Prep | Biopsy Tissue | Blood Cultures | Coagulation | CSF | Cytogenetics | Cytopathology | Fecal | Pap Smears | Throat Culture | Urine Collection | Viral | Wound Sample

Collection: Surgical excision, punch biopsy, curettage. Note: Muscle and nerve biopsies have different, specialized storage and submission requirements. Review instructions for specific test prior to biopsy procedure.

Storage: Submit biopsy in 10% neutral buffered formalin in a container labeled with:

  • Patients first and last names

  • Patient Medical Record number

  • specimen identification

Refrigeration recommended

For microbiologic culture, submit biopsy in sterile container without preservative.
