LEUKOCYTE REDUCED RED CELLS (007-0130)  "LEUKOCYTE REDUCED RED CELLS"  

Synonyms: Filtered RBCs, Leukocyte Depleted RBC, Leuko-poor RBC

Order Mnemonic: BILL LPC

Test Includes: ABO, Rh type, antibody screen and crossmatch

Lab: Blood Bank

Request Form: Blood Bank Blood Component Request

Collection: Routine venipuncture

Causes for Rejection: Specimen improperly labeled, requisition incomplete, SST/serum separator tube.  Does not meet the Transfusion Indications Criteria.

Availability: Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at the Blood Bank lab, McCullough 5.102

Turnaround Time: 2 hours

Special Instructions: RBCs are leukocyte reduced by filtration.  Once filtered, the product is considered CMV safe.  All requests must include requesting physician’s name and ID number, patient's name, UH #, patient location, clinical information/diagnosis.  Request form must be filled out completely and all information must be legible.

Volume: 5 mL blood

Minimum Volume: 3 mL blood

Container: Lavender-topped tube (EDTA)
