Patient Preparation: Fasting and discontinue medications so that the sample is free of drug metabolites

Collection: Plasma: Routine venipuncture

Storage Instructions: Store on ice

Causes for Rejection: Specimen over 24 hrs old

Availability: Blood samples can be delivered to the Developmental Nutrition and Metabolism Lab, Room C3-22, Children's Hospital, 8 AM-5 PM, Monday-Friday or to Sample Management, Room 5.136, McCullough, 24 hours per day.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 5 days; STAT: 2 days

Special Instructions: Fasting specimen; free from drug therapy for 48 hours

Specimen: Blood,  CSF

Volume: Plasma & CSF: 1-2 mL

Minimum Volume: Plasma 0.7 mL

Container: Plasma: Green-stoppered tube
