Special Chemistry

Routine: 24 hours; Test is performed Monday – Friday.

Collect: Routine venipuncture. Preferred: SST (gel barrier) vacutainer tube; Acceptable: Red-topped vacutainer tube

Storage/Transport: SST (Serum Separator Tube): Centrifuge, refrigerate, and deliver to lab within 24 hours. If delayed more than 24 hours, remove serum and freeze -15 to -20°C. Red-topped tube: Centrifuge, remove serum from cells, refrigerate, and deliver to lab within 24 hours. If delayed more than 24 hours, freeze serum at -15 to -20°C.

Causes for Rejection: Gross hemolysis or lipemia, improperly labeled specimen, and QNS specimen

If applicable, state clinical information that is required to be provided with specimen.
