Collection: Routine venipuncture. The optimum time
for collection of blood specimen is between 10 and 14 hours after the last dose of
medication for patients taking antidepressants once a day and just before the morning dose
for patients who are on a divided dose schedule. Request must include date and
time of specimen collection.
Storage Instructions: Store at 2-8°C. Centrifuge
the specimen and remove serum from the red cells within 4 hours of collection; freeze
serum in plastic vial.
Causes for Rejection: Serum not separated from the
clot in 4 hours or less, blood collected with plasticizers or gel separators/SST tubes
Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day
at Sample Management, 5.136 McCullough.
Turnaround Time: Routine: 3-5 days; test is
performed on Tuesdays and Thursdays
Special Instructions: Blood specimens must arrive in
the TDM laboratory before noon on the days of analysis to be included in the run.
