Lab: Clinical Chemistry

Request Form: Special Chemistry Form 2.

Collection: Routine venipuncture. Cleaning of puncture site should be performed with a non-alcoholic solution. Collect one red-toped tube.

Storage Instructions: Red-topped tube: Centrifuge the specimen, separate serum from red cells and refrigerate.

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 24 hours; STAT: 1 hour

Special Instructions: Indicate suspected drug(s) if possible.

Specimen: Blood

Volume: 7mL whole blood

Minimum Volume: 1mL serum

Container: Red-topped tube

Reference Ranges: Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines and TCA: Negative.

Critical Values: Tricyclic Antidepressants: >200 ng/mL (Doxepin and metabolites) or >400 ng/mL (other Tricyclic Antidepressants) may be toxic and quantitation by HPLC is recommended.
