Collection: Cleaning of puncture site should be performed with a non-alcoholic solution. Venous or capillary whole blood properly collected in a closed system is the preferred specimen.

Storage Instructions: Centrifuge the specimen; the sample is stable at room temperature (25°C) for 48 hours; refrigerated (5°C) for about two weeks.

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 24 hours; STAT: 4 hour

Special Instructions: Requests after 4 pm require the approval of the director or pathology resident on call.
