Turnaround Time:

 Routine: 24 hours; STAT: 1 hour

Specimen Requirements:

Collect: Routine venipuncture. Peak Levels: Collect blood 0.5 to 1.0 hour after the end of a 30-minute infusion or one hour after IM dose; Trough Levels: Draw immediately before dosing.  Red-topped tube. Do not use SST/gel separator tube.

Storage/Transport: Refrigerated (2-8C) as soon as possible. Centrifuge the specimen, remove the serum from the red cells and refrigerate.

Causes for Rejection: Hemolysis, improperly labeled,   blood collected in a SST/gel barrier tube or any anticoagulated tube. See special instructions.

Reference Range:

By report (reports may vary based on instrumentation, patient age and sex)

Note:

  If the sample is obtained through the infusion line, flush the line thoroughly with saline before taking the blood sample.

When ordering tests for which Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement will be sought, physicians should only order tests that are medically necessary for the diagnosis or treatment of the patient.  Components of the organ or disease panels may be ordered individually.  The diagnostic information must substantiate all tests ordered and must be in the form of an ICD-9 code or its verbal equivalent.
