Collection: Random or 24-hour collection (no preservative)

Storage Instructions: Timed specimens must be kept cool during collection. Refrigerate at 2-8°C or keep on ice.

Causes for Rejection: Collected using a preservative

Availability: Samples are received 24 hours per day at Sample Management, Room 5.136 McCullough.

Turnaround Time: Routine: 4 hours (7 am - 11 p.m.); STAT: 1 hour

Special Instructions: Timed specimens must have start date and time, finish date and time, and total volume on request form. STAT not available for 24 hour collections.

Specimen: Urine

Volume: 10 mL (random or aliquot of timed collection )

Minimum Volume: 5 mL urine

Container: Plain tube, red top tube or plastic cup with tight-fitting lid

Reference Ranges: <30 mg/dL for random urine. 0-500 mg/24 hrs for 24-hour samples.

Test Method: End Point Colorimetric, oxidase
