  Routine: 3-5 days; test is performed on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Specimen Requirements:

 Test Includes: Desipramine

Collect: Routine venipuncture. The optimal time for collection of specimens for steady-date levels is between 10 and 14 hours after the last dose of medication for patients taking antidepressants once a day, and just before the morning dose for patients who are on a divided dose schedule.  Red-topped tube. Do not use SST tubes.

Storage/Transport: Store at 2-8°C. Centrifuge the specimen and remove the serum from the red cells within 4 hours of collection; freeze serum in plastic vial at -20°C.

Causes for Rejection: Serum allowed to remain on the clot for more than 4 hours, blood collected in a SST tube
