Turnaround Time:

 24 - 48 hours; test performed Monday – Thursday.

Specimen Requirements:

Collect:  Routine venipuncture; AM collection is preferred.  7 mL SST (gel barrier); Acceptable:7 or 10 mL red-topped tube or green-topped tube (see storage Instructions).

Storage/Transport:  SST (Serum Separator Tube): Centrifuge and refrigerate until delivered to lab within 24 hours. If delayed more than 24 hours, remove serum and freeze. Red-topped tube or Green-topped tube (heparinized): Centrifuge, remove serum from cells, refrigerate until delivered to lab within 24 hours. If delayed more than 24 hours, freeze serum @ -20°C.

Causes for Rejection:  Improper collection, improperly labeled, incomplete information. See special instructions.

Clinical Information:

If applicable, state clinical information that is required to be provided with specimen.

Reference Range:

By report (reports may vary based on instrumentation, patient age and sex)

Note:

 Timed samples must be labeled properly as to time collected (i.e., fasting, 30 min, 1 hour, etc.).

When ordering tests for which Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement will be sought, physicians should only order tests that are medically necessary for the diagnosis or treatment of the patient.  Components of the organ or disease panels may be ordered individually.  The diagnostic information must substantiate all tests ordered and must be in the form of an ICD-9 code or its verbal equivalent.
